Ahhh, Monday morning. The big girls are out of the house. The littlest girl is sleeping. I have a quiet, clean house in which to enjoy my coffee. And I’m able to finish a cup before it turns to ice.

(The house is (almost) always clean on Monday mornings, because I like to do the cleaning Sunday night after the kids have spent the weekend destroying it. That way I know it will be clean for longer than 5 minutes).

Then once the girl wakes up it’s not so peaceful, but I’ll take it. I only have 11 more months of her home with me. But who’s counting?

This morning, however, I am not so relaxed.  I’m tired and a bit grumpy and a little out of sorts. And truly, is it any wonder? I spent last night watching The Walking Dead.

Those idiot prisoners didn’t know the first thing about killing zombies! Like Rick has nothing better to do than to train them. What part of “aim for the brains” did these guys not understand?  Also? Carl is still not staying in the house, er prison. Put that kid in a cell.

Then it’s 666 Park Avenue with little girl ghosts under the bed and an apartment owner who may or may not be the devil incarnate (Spoiler: He is.  He totally is.) I love this show. It’s super creepy for a basic cable, prime time show. But is it just me or is the apartment manager sort of a freak for not at least mentioning she sees dead people?

Rounding out my night of creepy television was Dexter. I will admit I have loved this show since the first episode, but I wasn’t sure how it was going to go this season. What with last season’s cliffhanger and all (lame). But it’s been really good! I’m not going to stop watching.

So after all that creepy TV, I decided to read for a while before going to sleep. Here is the book I’m currently reading:

And here is the book description from Amazon:

Geek Love is the story of the Binewskis, a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out–with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes–to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. There’s Arturo the Aquaboy, who has flippers for limbs and a megalomaniac ambition worthy of Genghis Khan . . . Iphy and Elly, the lissome Siamese twins . . . albino hunchback Oly, and the outwardly normal Chick, whose mysterious gifts make him the family’s most precious–and dangerous–asset.

As the Binewskis take their act across the backwaters of the U.S., inspiring fanatical devotion and murderous revulsion; as its members conduct their own Machiavellian version of sibling rivalry, Geek Love throws its sulfurous light on our notions of the freakish and the normal, the beautiful and the ugly, the holy and the obscene. Family values will never be the same.

Nothing creepy about that at all.  So is it any wonder I’m not sleeping well? And my night is full of very strange, very vivid dreams?

Tonight I’m just going to watch The Good Wife.
