We’re all trying to get into the swing of school and it’s slow-going. Particularly for me. I’m not the most organized person (ha!) and I’m not what you’d call a morning person. At all. And neither are my children.

All summer they slept until 9am or 10am. Now I have to wake them at 7am. They handle this much better than I do. Thank goodness the little one doesn’t start school until noon. But of course there are days when her sisters inadvertently wake her up. No matter how many times I hiss “Be quiet!”

I know I should get to sleep earlier. Duh. That’s not rocket science. But I have so many things I want to do once the girls are finally tucked in. Read, watch TV, have sex. I can’t possibly get to sleep before midnight. Can I? I probably should. If I ever want to snap out of this perpetual fog.

And Girl Scouts has started up again. For both of the big girls. Which means I’ve got to iron on patches, keep track of their sashes, and know who has a meeting when, who has a field trip when and whose turn it is to bring a snack to a meeting. Also? I’m the treasurer for Nita’s troop. This is my 3rd year. This is how desperate they are for someone to do this job. I cannot add. And I mentioned I’m not organized right? So I might wait several months to balance the checkbook.

But you know what? Not this year! I don’t want to be tired, cranky and stressed out. Homework is going to start coming home this week and I’m going to be on top of it, goddamnit! If it kills me.

I’m going to balance that check book! I’m going to get my ass in bed earlier. Even if I have to take a xanax to do it. And while I’m at it, I’m going to drink more water and eat less crap.

How are you adjusting to your new routine?

I’m that “bad” mom… I would roll my ass out of bed, get the kids off to school then head back for more sleep (Imo noon is a perfectly reasonable time to get up). I’ve always stayed up until 2-3 a.m. The older I get (I’m only 35… god help me when I’m actually old! lol) the harder I find it to sleep at night. When my husband is gone (he’s oilfield, gone for 32 days, home 26) I have been averaging getting to sleep at 4-5 a.m. I am thankful that I have an 18 year old son who wakes his sister up and takes her to school but I do still set my alarm for 7 to make sure they haven’t overslept and are getting ready. Next year is gonna suck when I actually have to get up again to get the girl up and ready – but on the up side they are building the new elementary school about a block from my house so she’ll be able to walk her butt down there and catch the bus to school. In any case, good luck and I hope you meet all of your goals! :)

  2. Girlfriend! I love this post! SEE, we can motivate each other!! For example, I am now freaking out about Girl Scouts. Olivia is in kindergarten now, does that mean she’s eligible? And if so, have I missed the boat????

Sarah, that’s not bad! I can’t go back to sleep once the big girls are on the bus because the littlest one usually wakes soon after. But I do put her in bed with me and turn on the tv so she can watch Bubble Guppies while I am on my laptop. But that’s not bad, right?

Yes, Missy! Even 8am would be so much better. And now the sun isn’t coming up as early, the mornings are cool and foggy. It’s extra hard to get up!

It’s not too late! No boat has been missed, Melisa! Little O is eligible for Daisy Girl Scouts. I’ll send you the woman’s name that you need to contact to get her into a toop.
