Last night we went to the July 3rd street fair

The rain stopped, the clouds parted and the sun actually shone down on us! It was a true PNW miracle.

The girls found friends immediately. So while they made some lovely chalk art Big Daddy and I high-tailed it to the beer garden.

I’m actually squinting because the sun is in my eyes!

Reason #346 that we moved to Bainbridge Island: we can sit in the beer garden and let our kids play without fear of something bad happening to them. Not only is this a safe town, but you can’t move two feet without bumping into a friend. They’re safe.

After we fortified ourselves with beer and wine, we went in search of fair food (is there any better junk food than fair food?).

Snow cones made by your softball teammate? Even more delicious!

Don’t worry, that’s not blood splatter – just the remains of an earlier hotdog incident.  See the rainboots? It had been POURING rain about an hour before the street fair. My Nini wanted to be prepared. Happily, they were completely unnecessary.

This one patiently stood in line for cotton candy for 20 minutes, then gobbled it all up in about 2 minutes.

There was face painting

and of course dancing in the street. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of that. Because I may or may not have been right in front of the stage with my girls shaking my money-maker and not holding a phone or camera. And, luckily for me, Big Daddy didn’t think to memorialize that with pictures.

Hope you’re enjoying your holiday and celebrating America’s birthday in style.
