Dude, I’m experiencing some serious winter weather this week! The likes of which I haven’t seen since that Storm of the Century in New York City in 1993. Wow. That was a long time ago. I’m old. Anyway, we’ve got Snow! And Freezing Rain! And an Ice Storm! And now it’s melting and is a mess!! Woohooo.

This is our third snow day. I must give credit where credit is due. My neighbors are amazing! I heart this neighborhood so, so much. Not only is it filled with kids who are my girls’ schoolmates and buddies, but all their parents are  super cool! We have all had the best time this week sledding, watching the kids sled (or in my case, sending them out to sled while staying in drinking chardonnay), warming them up with hot cocoa and sending them back out again.

I’ve got to say, it’s all much better with power! Last winter’s snow storm kinda blew because we were without power for about 3 days. It’s all fun and adventurous for 12 hours. 24 tops. 3 days is just not fun.  So let’s all give a big shout out to electricity!!

I actually broke down and busted out the canvases and paints I bought the girls for Christmas. And guess what? It wasn’t that bad! They didn’t make a huge mess or dump paint on the floor. Yay.

I just might survive this snow stuff.

    Hey Trish and Jobe,
Snow in this part of the world (NH) is common in winter. Obviously, not in your part of the world. I can relate to no electricity as we were without it for a week here a few years back. Needless, to say, we had a generator installed shortly after which is a great relief. The only thing is we had a mouse crawl into the generator, chewed up the filter and wiring. It was still living inside when we had a maintenance man lift the cover to find the problem. Fortunatly he had it up and running before the major snow storm this last October’s end (3days after). Boy, that was close!
    Love, Aunt Barbara

Hi Aunt Barbar! When the power went out for 3 days last year we were renting and had a small generator. So we were able to charge our phones, use the microwave, etc. But no lights; of course no TV or Internet and no heat. But we did have a wood stove! We just bought a little generator for our current home. So, we’re prepared!! Yes, snow is a novelty on the island. A few inches can shut us down. Sort of like rain in San Diego :)

  3. I’m still trying to get used to living in a snowy state again, we just moved to MN from San Diego! It’s a crazy adjustment, at least it’s pretty! :)

Amanda, I was born and raised in San Diego! I moved from there to Manhattan, NY when I was 23. It was quite the change. Hope you’re enjoying MN.
