So I went on a little organizing tear this weekend.  I didn’t really get all the much accomplished, but for me it’s sort of a big deal. In fact, my oldest daughter said to me at one point, “Mommy! What has gotten into you?!” in a very happy voice. The girls are thrilled with the organizing. Because? They can now easily see what toys they have  and are playing with toys they haven’t seen in months. Also? The organizing has somehow given way to a crafty side of the mama. I am not crafty at all. As I may have mentioned once or twice. I’m not the mom who sits down with her kids to color, much less work on a major craft project – or a minor one for that matter. But this weekend?  I helped them cut out pictures from magazines for collages; saved a few big boxes for them to decorate and turn into a train and spent some time coloring pictures with them.  They really dig the organizing of the craft supplies. While we were cleaning up and putting crayons and paper away last night, they thanked me for buying the craft supply caddy for them. They are actually enjoying putting their things away and keeping everything neat! Who knew? Maybe it’s just the novelty of having the containers.  And the novelty of their mother saying, “Things are going to change around here! We are keeping the house clean and our things organized!” (It was this statement that prompted the girl to ask what has gotten into me).

I gathered all of the youngest one’s toys together and put them in a canvas bin (that I had totally forgotten I had purchased) in her room. Now that she can easily get to her toys, she is playing with them happily for hours a day! I put the big girls’ Barbies, Barbie clothes and the girls’ costume jewelry in the cubbies of an over-the-door-shoe-holder. Not only does it keep them organized, it saves space and keeps them out of sight.

A few weeks ago I bought a big box of fabric at an estate sale. I spent some time measuring the drawers in my bathroom and lining them with fabric! What? Me? Yup! I got the idea from Heather Armstrong’s blog for HGTV.  A simple thing like that makes a big difference. We also put my sewing table together. Please remind me that I have sworn I will never again buy furniture that requires assembly! Why do we do this? It’s always crap and putting it together sucks. Somehow I forgot that in my eagerness to get a sewing desk. And why was I so eager anyway? I haven’t even begun to begin to sew my mail sack. Oh well. I digress. We got it put together and I put some contact paper in the drawers and started to put my few sewing things in them.

Also? Now that we know we will be in this house for at least another year, I’ve got a bug up my butt to get some more pictures on the walls.  Pictures of something other than my beautiful girls. So while Nita was at a birthday party yesterday in Poulsbo, I did a little thrift shopping. My favorite thing these days. Which, of course, made me scratch my head and wonder why I wanted the damn assembly-required sewing desk when I could have bought a really cool vintage desk or something and turned it into my sewing desk! Whatevs. What’s done is done. However, I did score a couple framed flower prints for the half bath downstairs.

So it’s been a fairly productive few days. And I’m just getting warmed up.  Because I  know you are just dying to get a peek into my bathroom drawers and my toy containers, I’ve got pictures for you. Lucky! (I hope you can hear the tone of sarcasm thru the Internets).
