It was such a lovely weekend. The mama got to do a lot of relaxing and hanging with the babe while Daddy bonded with the big girls.  He took them to their T-ball game and helped coach because both of their regular coaches were out of town.  Big Daddy and I got to have a much needed date night. A fun evening of wine tasting!! Who knew there were such great wineries right on Bainbridge Island? The girls played with their friends in the neighborhood, went to the playground and the section of the woods with the tire swing.

While that was going on, I got to read, knit (I finished Nita’s scarf!), catch up on my sleep and organize the house a little bit. And had some really precious one-on-one time with my favorite youngest girl. We danced and played and giggled quite a bit. And she took some long naps so I could get all that reading done.

So how did we cap off this wonderfully relaxing and fun weekend? With a trip to the ER, of course! While at that extremely picturesque little spot in the woods, my Nini had a little mishap. For those of you who know her or have heard the stories, you know this is not out of the ordinary (not the trip to the ER – that’s out of the ordinary – but the mishap). The girl trips over nothing and slides right off piano stools, slips down the stairs and walks right into walls. All of this usually ends with an overly cheery, “I’m OK!” from the little slap stick klutz. She wants to assure me before I get all over her and make sure she’s in one piece. Seriously, this happens so often it’s kind of hard to muster any sympathy on the odd occasion that she does hurt herself. Just walking down the hall. And? It’s pretty damn funny a lot of the time.  Think of Dick Van Dyke or Lucille Ball and their prat falls.

But yesterday? Nothing funny about that fall. I was fixing the baby dinner when Daddy burst through the door with Nita in his arms and Zeta right behind shouting, “She broke her arm!” Nita said that she was playing Indiana Jones with Daddy. He had both her hands in one of his and swung her a couple feet over the width of the creek. But she slipped and landed hard on her right arm/shoulder.  Of course Daddy felt like crap, but I assured him it wasn’t his fault (after about 5 minutes of “What were you thinking?!” and “Are you trying to kill the kids?!”).  I gotta give it to Nita. She never cried. She said it hurt and she was clearly in some pain. Wouldn’t move her arm or let anyone touch it, but she didn’t shed one tear.  She broke the same arm over a year ago and never cried or said it hurt. Just wouldn’t move the arm. It hung limp at her side and made me immediately think she had some terrible muscle disease. The kid is completely punk rock when it comes to pain tolerance. Unlike her wussy mother who needs a Percocet if she stubs her toe.

Big Daddy put her in the van along with the big sister who insisted on going because, “She is my sister and I love her more than anything,” and headed to the hospital.  Several hours and x-rays later it is determined that Nita has a bad sprain, but luckily nothing is broken. Her little arm is in a splint and sling and she is none too happy about that. But she’s a tough cookie and is making the best of it.  Big Daddy bought her a Webkinz and she’s online playing with it now.

She did tell me she never wanted to go to that tire swing in the first place (blatant lie, she begged me to stay home with Jemima so they could go) because she knew Daddy would want to play Indiana Jones and she didn’t want to (another lie.  She begs the man everyday to pick her up and throw her). I told her I was so sorry and she would never have to go back to that scary tire swing again (I’m pretty sure she’ll be begging to go as soon as the splint is off).

UPDATE: Her elbow IS broken :( She will be in the splint for one more week and then a cast for 3 weeks. No more TBall.

Poor Nita. I hope her arm is feeling better soon
I can completely relate to the clumsiness, the initial lack of sympathy and blaming the husband!
Touch wood mine are too much of a bunch of woozes to get themselves into to much trouble.

I am sure that she will heal before Big Daddy does. Xavier is begging to see the other girls too on the pics. Glad she is doing better.
