So How’s That Going?
This is the update post. Where I update you on previous posts.
Let’s start with the knitting. Let’s just get the bad news right out of the way. I haven’t picked up the needles since the day after the last class. Which was about a week and a half ago. I really don’t know what my problem is with this. I enjoy knitting. Although, I do suck and don’t think I am improving. But I do realize that it does take time and practice, so I should really get going on the practice part. I have some pretty pink wool that my husband bought me. I am planning to make a scarf for my daughter with it. She has been asking me since I first started what I am going to make her and when can I teach her how to knit. I even went so far as to find a pattern on Ravelry.com. I just need to get started. The thing is I know it is probably going to look crappy and I will have to pull some stitches out and start over. But that’s normal stuff for beginner knitters! I just need to get the balls, suck it up, and get going.
Next up on the update parade: my effort to cook more and maintain a well-stocked pantry. I gotta tell you I posted this list kind of half-hearted. That’s not to say I did not want to have a well-stocked pantry, but I didn’t think that this list was really going to transform my kitchen. Much less change my life like it has. Making sure that I have these items in my pantry at all times has seriously been life changing. I used to be that girl that would go to the store everyday to get the items I needed to make dinner that night. I am still not able to plan out meals for the week or even more than a couple days in advance. But now? It’s not a problem. I look in the cookbook and no matter what the recipe, I have everything I need to make a dish! Amazing. What else? There are always healthy snacks for the kids and the parents and who ever else happens to drop by. Remember how I said I had no idea what the hell Panko crumbs were or what to do with them? Well, I’ve found quite a few things to do with them! One of our favorites is making chicken strips with them instead of Italian bread crumbs. Yum!
Then there was the hair post where I lamented my Jew ‘fro and how I am unable to do a damn thing with it. This is completley because I’m a big oaf when it comes to styling my hair (or putting on make-up, but we’ll save that for another time). Whenever I get my hair done professionally, it comes out looking fab with little effort on the part of the professional. And, as I said in that post, every stylist tells me how great my hair is. This was always such a joke to me. Well, no more! Thanks to the recommendation of some friends, I found an excellent flat iron. The thing works miracles! Again, life changing. I no longer put any product in my hair. Or blow it dry. I just let it air dry or I towel dry my hair, and then run the flat iron through it. Viola! First time I used it, my husband asked me if I had been to the salon. See? Idiot proof.

Trish, did you make that scarf in the picture? Because if you did, you are light years ahead of where I was after “let’s-not-count” how many classes. I think you have the knitting gene.
P.S. I do share your love of cooking:)
No Mary, I haven’t even started the scarf yet. But that is the one I am going to (attempt to) make for zeta.
Hey Trish,
I recently wrote a post about this website one of my readers told me about called Super Cook (http://www.sweetwatersavings.com/super-cook.html). You just type in the ingredients that you have on hand and a list of potential recipes pops up. I love that it gives me new ideas and the recipes come from all different cooks.
Have a great day, love to all:)
♥ Liz
Very cool! Thanks Liz
I’ve been meaning to get on the Panko train. Are they life-changing? Are they in the grocery store? I must know.
Also, I will take your Jew ‘fro over my Norwegian flat hair ANY DAY.
