Who Am I?
Seriously, People! I don’t recognize myself. Here is what I received for Christmas and not only am I happy about these gifts, I am absolutely freaking giddy! Have I become some sort of domestic goddess? Me? The girl who couldn’t boil water? Once put too much milk in the Kraft mac & cheese so it was more like mac and cheese soup? The girl who is not in the least bit crafty? It would appear so. And I couldn’t be happier about it!
Le Creuset Dutch Oven
18 piece Corning Ware baking/serving set
Yarn, needles, etc (I write “etc” because I don’t know wtf all the stuff is or wtf I’m supposed to use it for or how!)
OMG, I put that cute little apron on and haven’t taken it off! Made some cinnamon twists. Sure, they were Pillsbury and all I did was heat up the oven, but come on! Me!! This is big news!! I also used the mixer immediately upon opening it to make some chocolate chip cookies. (By the way, the recipe on the bag of Ghirardelli chocolate chips is amazingly delicious). I cannot wait to use that Dutch oven!! And the serving dishes!! I never have anything to serve my food in! Mismatch things I inherited from my mother and a couple nice pieces I have received as gifts. But now I have an entire set. That matches!! Oh and the knitting!! I must confess, I’m a bit nervous about that. I am super excited, but I am not crafty at all or talented in any sort of crafty way. I am also lacking in patience. Something I assume is required for knitting. But, I really want to learn and so I think I’ll be ok in the end. Provided I don’t get frustrated, scream “Fuck this noise!” and rip it all up and toss it in the trash. I’m working on getting a prescription for Xanax to handle that problem.
Hope your Christmas gifts made you just as happy. And tell me, did you get some gifts that you love that would have pissed you off had they been under the tree a few years ago? I can’t be the only one who doesn’t recognize herself this year.

Trish, I am totally with you. I got a steamer/rice cooker and was more excited about that than the bubble bath I got! There was a day I would have been so pissed. But, we are domestic divas now… just consider it evolution.
BTW- you look totally sexy in that apron
What I love about it is you totally MADE yourself into a domestic diva. Remember when we really did talk alot about how to get the hang of this whole mommyhood thing and embrace it? You really did set out to rock it and I am so impressed. I have told you many times – and not written on your blog – but told you just you when no one else was around (so you know it is true)- how much you inspire me. You really do trish. I think you are being very authentic in your life and that inspires me. I miss you. Okay, now I am crying. sheesh.
p.s. I got clothes for christmas. lots of cute things to wear to work (steve got them via help from Heather!) and it was so fun and actually felt like christmas back when I was a teenager. Which was weird but cool.
Lisa, you got me crying too!! I miss you! And I am so jealous about the clothes presents!! Via Heather no less. Way to go, Steve!
What great picture and I love the apron, very retro-looking. That picture reminds me of the photo on the back cover of the book “Happy Housewives”
[...] So what did I make? The can’t fail Potato Basil Frittata from Ina Garten. I mean how can you possible go wrong with a pound of Gruyere and a pound of ricotta cheese?! I also had fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries and some yummy orange sticky buns from our local bakery. And what is brunch without mimosas and Blood Mary’s? Total crap I say! So we had a couple pitchers of mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar. And what delicious (and expensive) mimosas they were! You see I screwed up and used the expensive French champagne my husband just brought back from a business trip to Luxumbourg. Oops. Yeah, he was pissed. But, come on! I was cooking and cleaning and dealing with a little one hitting me on the leg while saying “mama, mama, mommy, moooommeeeee” over and over. So I mistook the good stuff for the ok stuff and mixed it with orange juice? Big deal. I didn’t put much orange juice in it anyway, cause I like ‘em strong. So we had several of those and the men had the deliciously spicy Bloody Mary’s my husband made. I love his Bloody’s cause he puts so much yummy stuff in them. Peperocinis, Spanish olives, pickles, you get the idea. Yum! I even wore my cute new apron! [...]
Uh, you forgot to tell us what color your amazing 7.5 qt Le Cruset dutch oven is! Do tell. And I think your gifts are awesome! I got an electric kettle and a killer wok for my birthday last year and I love them both. Well-equipped kitchen = happy woman, as far as I’m concerned.
It’s sort of a winter white. Kind of boring but that is what I wanted. It’ll go with everything. Because Jobe spent a certain amount of money, Sur Le Table threw in 2 casserole dishes in Carribean Blue
